Don’t Let Fear Stop You!

Fear … it’s a formidable opponent.

It also cheats.

I’ve been ruled by fear at the most benign intersections in my life. While yet, still being confident in the face of other more daunting challenges.

The irony of this is not lost on me.

How can I feel confident when facing one new challenge, yet scared {sometimes the emotional equivalent of rocking back and forth in a fetal position} with another new challenge?

The kicker – is when the one that’s got me scared is generally thought to be less scary when measured by ‘conventional‘ wisdom. {case in point …. I wrote and published two books in less than five months time, yet was still too scared to ‘officially’ commit to launching a real blog, tsk, tsk…(until now, that is!)}

If you’ve ever found yourself facing the procrastination destination on a challenge you know you must overcome to reach the next level of your life, I’ve got a wonderful surprise in store for you.

But first, back to that nasty beasty called F-E-A-R.

Fear typically manifests itself in our head when we either feel like we have too much┬áto lose by proceeding forward or when we’re listening to the gnarly, nasty negative self-talk in our heads.

You know what I mean, right?

“You’re not good enough to do that!”
“Who do you think you are?”
“No one’s going to buy that!”
“No one cares about you and your efforts.”
“Why do you even bother?”
“Why don’t you just give up?”
“What if they don’t like it?”
“Wouldn’t you rather watch TV or play a game instead of putting yourself out there?”
“What’s up with all the pushing and shoving all the time? Can’t you just give it a rest already?”

Negative self-talk is one of the most powerful demons I face on a day-to-day basis as an entrepreneur.

You’d think I’d be my bestest friend and softest critic, but no. Alas, no.

I’m my harshest critic, the worst boss ever {I’m my own boss, BTW}, and the meanest, ugliest mouth this side of the Texas border when engaging in self-talk čÖé

Yep, that’s me when I’m trying to push myself above my current limits.

When I reach for the stars, create something new, ask for business … the gloves come off and I am once again staring down the right hook of my own negativity, self-doubt and fear.

This … this was my old way, though.

I’ve been imbued with the fairy dust of courage, resolve, and consistency – finally!
